Carnelian Sol Designs creates hand dyed home goods, market bags and wearable art with liquid and ice dyes using traditional and historic techniques. Carnelian Sol Designs creates distinctive jewelry featuring antique trade beads, natural elements and locally crafted ceramics for a uniquely bohemian style.
Each piece of jewelry created features antique trade beads that are as old as the 1700s-1900s. They were created in Europe to trade to Africa and North and South America up to the 1920s. They are highlighted with other pieces of antiquity and novelty - handmade African brass, natural stones and locally made ceramics.
Textile dyeing is a combination of tying techniques and color theory and selection. Using historic Japanese folding techniques known as Shibori and modern folding styles create a variety of results. I started liquid dyeing in 1964, I now use almost exclusively ice dye techniques. My favorite designs include Geode, Mandalas and Scrunch folds. I focus on bags and household items to sell and do custom orders for wearable art.
