JOELLA MILLER
JOELLA MILLER
2009
I started designing jewelry a few years ago when a glitzy red beaded watch called to me across the counter at Marshall Field’s. My hubby bought the watch for me and the beads have become a way of life.
A gardener for many years, I work with my beads in much the same way that I planned and planted my flower beds. Using the pattern and grain in the stones as well as the shape of them and adding colors and accents of other items I create my jewelry – many one of a kind or limited edition pieces. I work with a growing selection of gemstones, US artisan lampwork, sterling wire, copper wire, and of course, Swarovski crystals.
My jewelry is constantly changing as I learn new techniques and find new materials. Last winter’s obsession was learning to knot pearls on silk by hand. I’m currently engrossed in chainmaille – the ancient art of making armor from interconnected rings. I now coil and cut my own rings of sterling or copper to weave bracelets, earrings and necklaces. And I had my beginning lampworking class in the beginning of 2009.
I am a Self Representing Artist. I belong to the 14 South Artists of South Central WI and the International Jewelry Designer’s Guild.
