Volunteer Committee Definitions
Each member of 14 South Artists is expected to volunteer a small amount of time each year to assist with our organization's activities. Because there are many opportunities to fulfill this commitment, we have created this list of Volunteer Committee Definitions to help you decide the volunteer committee(s) that will benefit most from your talents and skills, here is a short definition of each committee.
Education
Committee members will: plan monthly programs, connect with schools, find and schedule speakers, create educational handouts, keep abreast of educational opportunities for our members, consider and manage a scholarship fund, manage educational workshops for members and/or the public.
Skills helpful include: interest in education, organizational skills, phone skills, general computer or Internet skills, awareness of member needs, creative thinking, and general keyboard skills.
Events
Committee members will: assist in planning and organizing shows and events, chair events, create event budgets, select event locations, select dates for events, determine advertising needs and budget, prepare and manage publicity for the event, manage event applications and information sheets, design room layout, manage and distribute signs and posters, communicate with event participants, assist with pre-show setup and post-show clean up, coordinate volunteers, manage social event, manage annual member dinner.
Skills helpful include: organizational skills, database and/or general computer skills, general money management, phone skills, publicity and marketing skills, and email skills.
Publicity and Communications
Committee members will: design and maintain organization website, manage online forms, manage yahoo group, design and create organization's publicity materials, get printing quotes, determine materials distribution, manage where and how to advertise, setup and manage interviews as needed, write articles for publications and press releases, oversee publications such as newspaper inserts and education newsletters, and manage ad sales or ad purchases.
Skills helpful include: graphics design, computer skills, photography skills, phone and email skills, writing skills, public speaking, organizational skills, and sales management.
Membership
Committee members will: jury new member's art, create and manage member applications, maintain membership list(s), be first contact for questions for new members, manage membership database, manage and maintain new member orientation program, and communicate important organization news to all members.
Skills helpful include: works well with people, phone skills, general computer skills (including email), art experience for jurying, record-keeping, and data entry.
Fundraising
Committee members will: explore and manage Not For Profit status, write grants, manage and solicite donations, find corporate sponsorships for events.
Skills helpful include: general computer and Internet skills, writing skills (specifically grant writing), financial planning and budgeting skills, good interpersonal skills, research skills, organizational skills, and general phone skills.
Secretarial/Procedural
Committee members will: backup note-taker for secretary, historian for organization, documents all procedures and processes of organization, updates organization handbook.
Skills helpful include: good listening skills, ability to summarize discussions and ideas and record those summaries, organizational skills, be a logical and linear thinker.
